The company was incorporated in 1985 to manufacture and sell hydrographic survey equipment. During the first seven years, Odom Hydrographic Systems, Inc. provided over 300 MKI ECHOTRAC echo sounders to organizations such as the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, and the Panama Canal Commission. Additionally, ECHOTRAC echo sounders are supplied to numerous navies, port authorities, and research firms world-wide.
In 1994, a new ECHOTRAC, the model DF3200 was introduced and in 1997, sales surpassed that of its predecessor. The MKII ECHOTRAC incorporates digital signal processing and microprocessor technology in a portable, precision survey echo sounder.
The next addition to the echo sounder product line was the HydroTrac, a single frequency survey sounder designed for small boat installations. The unit is completely water proof (with the cover in place) and can operate totally submerged. An optional DGPS receiver can be mounted inside to provide a mini survey package with XYZ data printed on the chart at event marks.
Following on from the successful MKII, Odom has just recently introduced the new ECHOTRAC DF3200 MKIII, which is an entirely new design incorporating cutting-edge technology and features in a more compact package. The MKIII is the only survey echo sounder that has interchangeable, plug and play modules for a high-resolution, thermal paper recorder and a full size colour LCD chart with data storage and playback.
Odom's rapid and widespread acceptance is attributed to the company's excellent reputation, the superior quality of its products, and excellent customer support. The majority of the engineering staff at Odom have considerable field experience which adds unique and valuable insight into surveying equipment design. A registered hydrographic surveyor is on staff full time to assist with training and to answer customer questions.
